What is Leucoderma / Vitiligo?
Leucoderma (also called vitiligo) is a condition in which the immune system mistakenly destroys melanocytes — the cells that produce skin pigment (melanin). This results in white patches of depigmented skin that can appear anywhere on the body, most visibly on the face, hands, lips, and around joints.
Despite what patients are often told, leucoderma is not "just cosmetic." It is an autoimmune condition — the same type of immune dysregulation seen in thyroid disease, alopecia areata, and psoriasis. This is why it frequently co-occurs with these conditions, and why advanced homeopathy — which addresses immune dysregulation — is among the most effective available treatments.
What you may have been told and why it's incomplete: 'There is no cure for vitiligo in allopathy' is a common statement — and it is true that conventional medicine has no consistent solution. Can vitiligo patches re-pigment completely?+
Yes — in many cases, particularly where treatment is started early (within 3–5 years of onset), patches respond and re-pigment significantly. Facial and body patches generally respond better than those on hands and feet. Patches present for 10+ years are harder to treat but can stabilise and show partial improvement.
I've had vitiligo for 7 years. Is treatment still useful?+
Yes.
