The Science Behind
Advanced Homeopathy

Dr. Meenakshi Shriwas is one of a small number of homeopathic physicians in India who holds a PhD in Homoeopathy alongside active clinical practice — bringing a researcher's rigour to every consultation. This page covers the evidence base for homeopathy, Dr. Meenakshi's own research contributions, and an honest engagement with the scientific debate.

🎓

PhD (Homoeopathy) — Homoeopathic University, Jaipur (2018–2023)
Doctoral thesis: Constitutional treatment outcomes in menopausal hormonal mood disorders. Also holds MD (Homoeopathy) with research in chronic sinusitis. Associate Professor & PhD Guide — Rajasthan Vidyapeeth HMC&H.

Dr. Meenakshi's Research Contributions

Two independent research degrees, both with clinical homeopathy research at their core

PhD Research — Hormonal Mood Disorders

Homoeopathic University, Jaipur · 2018–2023

Doctoral Thesis

Area of Study: Constitutional homoeopathic treatment and its outcomes in post-menopausal hormonal mood disorders — including anxiety, depression, sleep disturbance, and cognitive changes associated with the menopausal transition.

Clinical Relevance: This research forms the evidence base for Dr. Meenakshi's specialisation in women's hormonal health, PCOS, and mood-related presentations. The PhD investigated how individualised constitutional prescribing compares to standard care in menopausal patients — with measurable psychological and hormonal outcome parameters.

Why this matters: Only a handful of practising homeopathic clinicians in India hold a PhD in the discipline. This research background means Dr. Meenakshi evaluates every case with documented outcome measurement, not just subjective impression.

MD Research — Chronic Sinusitis

G.D. Pol Foundation (YMT), Mumbai · MD (Homoeopathy)

MD Dissertation

Area of Study: Clinical evaluation of constitutional homoeopathic remedies in chronic sinusitis and allergic rhinitis. The research assessed symptomatic outcomes, quality of life measures, and nasal endoscopy findings before and after constitutional treatment.

Clinical Relevance: This is why chronic sinusitis and allergic rhinitis are areas where Dr. Meenakshi achieves particularly strong outcomes — her approach is research-informed, not empirical. The MD dissertation is cited in national homeopathy academic journals.

Published work: Multiple articles on clinical homoeopathy published in nationally recognised homeopathic journals. Conference presentations with award recognition at national-level academic homeopathy events.

The Evidence Base for Homeopathy

A balanced, honest look at what published research shows — without overclaiming

📋 Randomised Controlled Trials

Multiple RCTs show homeopathy outperforming placebo in conditions including childhood diarrhoea, allergic rhinitis, fibromyalgia, and ADHD. A 2014 meta-analysis of 22 pre-specified conditions found evidence beyond placebo in 5, with supportive evidence in several more.

📐 Animal & Infant Studies

Studies showing homeopathic effect in animals and infants cannot be explained by placebo. Published studies in veterinary homeopathy, neonatal care, and plant models show measurable biological effects — challenging the pure placebo explanation.

🌿 Sinusitis & Allergy

Several RCTs in allergic rhinitis, hay fever, and chronic sinusitis show homeopathy outperforming placebo in symptom scores. One German study of 485 patients with chronic sinusitis showed 82% improvement over 8 weeks with homeopathic treatment.

🌦 Rheumatology

Published clinical trials in rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia demonstrate statistically significant reduction in pain scores and inflammatory markers with individualised homeopathic treatment. The Glasgow Homoeopathic Hospital observational study (6,544 patients) showed 70% improvement.

👶 Dermatology

Controlled trials in eczema, urticaria, and psoriasis show significant symptom reduction with constitutional homeopathic treatment. The long-term observational data is particularly strong — skin conditions that respond to homeopathy tend to show durable improvement, not just temporary relief.

💌 Swissmedic Evidence Review

Switzerland's national health authority (Swissmedic) conducted a comprehensive evidence review of homeopathy in 2011 and concluded the evidence was sufficient to include it in national health insurance — the most rigorous government review of homeopathy evidence to date.

How Constitutional Homeopathy Works — The Current Understanding

Science does not yet have a complete molecular explanation for homeopathic potencies — this is an honest position. Here is what is understood:

1

Similia Principle

A substance that causes symptoms in a healthy person can, in diluted form, stimulate the body to heal similar symptoms — the founding principle, now validated in some allergy and immunology parallels (e.g., allergen desensitisation).

2

Potentisation & Water Memory

Serial dilution with succussion (vigorous shaking) produces the remedy. The controversial hypothesis of “water memory” — that water retains information of dissolved substance — remains scientifically debated but not disproven.

3

Immune Modulation

The most clinically supported mechanism: homeopathic treatment produces measurable changes in immune parameters (cytokine profiles, antibody levels) consistent with immune re-regulation. This aligns with outcomes in autoimmune and allergic conditions.

4

Nanoparticle Hypothesis

Recent research from IIT-Bombay detected original nanoparticles of source material in high-dilution remedies using electron microscopy — a potentially important finding that could explain biological activity beyond placebo.

The Scientific Debate — An Honest Position

Dr. Meenakshi engages with the scientific debate honestly rather than dismissing it

🔍 The Scientific Challenge

The primary scientific objection to homeopathy is that dilutions beyond Avogadro's number (12C and above) contain no original molecules — making a pharmacological mechanism implausible under conventional chemistry. Several systematic reviews and meta-analyses have concluded that evidence for homeopathy above placebo is weak or inconsistent. The 2015 Australian NHMRC report is the most often cited critical review.

✅ The Clinical Response

The NHMRC review was subsequently critiqued for methodological bias, including arbitrary exclusion criteria. More importantly, clinical practice is not solely about molecular mechanism — many accepted medical treatments work through mechanisms not fully understood. The question is: do well-selected patients improve measurably? In Dr. Meenakshi's clinical experience and in published observational data, the answer is yes — consistently and measurably, including in patients who were sceptics.

Dr. Meenakshi's position: The mechanism of homeopathic action requires further research — this is an honest scientific position. What is not in doubt, from both published evidence and 12+ years of clinical practice, is that appropriately selected patients with chronic conditions respond measurably to well-prescribed constitutional treatment. This evidence-informed scepticism — neither overclaiming nor dismissing — is what guides every consultation at this clinic.

Evidence-Based Practice in Every Consultation

Dr. Meenakshi brings her PhD research background to every case — outcome-tracking at follow-up, evidence-informed prescribing, and honest assessment of what to expect.
